01/09/2021, The first day of my Product Management Certification Program at Product School.

I have been anticipating this moment for quite some time now as I have received my acceptance into the program sometime in early December. Simply put, the program constitutes 8 weeks of instructor-led classes to dive deep into Product Management and get you certified by the end of that period. What interested me in this program is that all their instructors are product leaders from the top companies in the tech world, giving me a great opportunity to learn, network, and grow under the guidance and mentorship of people in positions I aim to land in. My instructor is a product leader currently working at Apple, leading AI/ML R&D initiatives; that’s pretty cool!

Yesterday’s class was from 11 AM EST to 5 PM EST, a little long, but the amount of information discussed and topics shared was amazing. The group of students in my cohort was all very active and inquisitive, motivating me to engage and share my ideas and thoughts. Unfortunately, for half of the class, I was on the road heading to West Virginia for the weekend, so I felt like I didn’t give the second part of class my full attention, and I decided not to make any plans during Saturdays for the next 7 weeks. (let’s see how that goes).

Anyway, here’s a list of topics we discussed yesterday:

  1. The Product Lifecycle
  2. How to Identify the Why, How, and What.
  3. Creating User Personas.

As we approach the beginning of the week, I will start taking one specific topic from the class and focusing on applying it during my week at work to make sure that I am combining education with implementation.
